I think this is due to market size.
First of all this forum is very Singaporean themed.
The number of people going to Geylang legal houses is more than Bangkok.

Also another problem is some contributors may be accused by boliao people as stealth agents/bar owners. :p

This is Confucian ethics..... traditional Chinese families everywhere around the world still have this culture unlike the "westernized" modern families so common now. The Thais are taught this ethics since young in school and the majority retain and practice them.... it is those who are frequently in contact with foreigners that give up doing this.

I just returned from LOS and was brought by my Thai friend to a Chinese restaurant to meet his family. This restaurant is quite popular with both locals and foreigners and as we arrived.... the door hostess wai'ed to us and brought us to our table...... I observed that she & most of the other staff also wai'ed to the other Thai customers but never did the same to any of the foreigner customers.

As we were leaving I found an opportunity to talk with her and asked her why do they wai only to certain customers..... she replied foreigners dun understand the practice so they only do that to locals..... she also said she wai'ed to me because I looked and spoke Thai so she thought I was a local.....lol :D

Couple of nights ago we did a bar hop of the AGGs in Soi Cowboy.... we did not have any intention to bar-fine and only went to update ourselves of the current situation..... it seems the current favored customers of the AGGs now are Singaporeans & Malaysians!! At each AGG we were always queried by MMS where were we from? And the girls always ask to sit with us..... this happen at every AGG we went to so after another similar situation at Suzie Wong AGG..... I asked the MMS about this...... she replied that Sinagporeans & Malaysians customers are the best. :D I asked her why and her reply....... because S'pore & Malaysia customers have money many many and are not stingy..... in fact they have the perception that we are even more generous than the Japs & Kimchis

Guess the management is crap.... Yes foreigners might dun understand but it is polite way to "wai" when u see others esp in service line. Thailand "wai" and smiles are suppose to be welcoming sign in the world. Look at those advertisements which target foreigners.... Thai with a big smile and "wai" are common. :D Compare to SG, Thailand still unique.... SG has no identity at all :D Rojak.

Even in international scene, a good brought up guy will "wai"
