Re: Events In CP
All through my years of doing business, working, socializing, making friends and of course mongering in China, the place has never ceases to amaze me. And as fond as I am of conspiracy theories, the latest developments there steer me to thinking that all of this is not just a series of coincidences.
I'm easily gonna be wrong and I do hope to happily be so but....
- CCTV? Really? Where coverage of any topics are usually directed/ordered from high above and usually to serve a specific purpose. A couple or so months ago, coverage by the provincial level Guangdong television... As a first salvo, as an early warning, as a means to slowly shape popular public opinion in line with their plan of action. And now ....national CCTV. They're ready to take on decisive action, knowing that unless they now do so, they face the prospects of international ridicule.
- How come Chang Ping hasn't even been mentioned?! I think it's because Chang Ping has not much other than
the sex industry and if it gets struck too hard too early, the whole place will collapse and there is just going to be too much displacements....and possibly widespread social unrest. They have instead started with the Crown Prince who's owner is indeed a national level big wig and who's been quite impervious to previous yandas; thus sending out the message that even the best connected, the most influential etc will not be spared.
Timing - why now, when the pickin's gonna be slim? Precisely why - as they don't want to just make wholesale arrests which makes headlines but do little to actually solve the problem - that of trying to bring China back to respectability. In fact, ultra hard strikes in the past had actually backfired; think about what happened with those caught in Shenzhen a few years back, being publicly paraded. IMHO, the message is quite clear to those involved in the industry: - "don't come back, it ain't gonna be pretty if you do, stay home and build up your part of China or go take up work in so many other industries that are starving for labor. " Result - these sex entertainment centered places slowly - but more importantly, orderly die off; least amount of displacements and little mass social unrest. And the whole of China moving back to the correct path.
As I said, I'm easily and probably gonna be wrong and I certainly hope to be wrong, but nothing will surprise me in China.
