Re: Happening Discos/Clubs in BKK

just a quick update.

was out and about in Bangkok on Monday. haven't been back since May 2014 before the coup. even though it is a Monday night, I noticed some post-coup changes which I haven't seen before, and is also confirmed by a friend who is based in Bangkok.

went to MUSE and the place is practically dead. just three filled tables, a scene that I have not seen before in a few times I went there. adjourned to FUNKY VILLA. place is crowded but not packed but the club close at 2am on the dot. DEMO, to the right of FUNKY, is already closed with the door shut before 2am. the whole row of pub and restaurant besides DEMO are totally close and dark.

took the backlane stairs to NUNGLEN, place also closing with lights on at 2am. turned back to SAFEHOUSE and the place is practically empty at 2.30am.

took a taxi to SCRATCH DOG and was surprised the reception didn't stop and ask me to buy drinks by showing menu or pay cover charge, which was the norm. I soon out that the reason is that the club was closing for the night and the lights were all switched on at 3am dot. FYI, the norm closing hour for the place was around 5am EVERY day.

it seem that although things appeared to stay the same under the current military regime, there also appeared to be a certain strict discipline in compliance with "regulations", possibly due to even stricter enforcement and pressure from the top ?
