Just an eg, usually when the meter comes to 170...180K... I just give 200k, get out of taxi and leave. Most of the drivers are okay, they will be fiddling with the money wondering they should give me change or not...because they also want to give foreigners a good impression. I just say "khong co gi, anh...". In fact, I learned this attitude from the Vietnamese.
Think about it, if the driver gives me 20k change...what will I do with it? Bring the money home and bank in to DBS/POSB acct?
But that's just me. I love to spread goodwill all around wherever I go. You don't have to adopt my style if u dun like.
(In my mind I will be thinking...wow I only need to spend US$1 to make his day, make him smile... add an extra dish on the dinner table for his kid or whatever...totally worth it!)
Some travellers would adopt the "super kiamsiap backpacker" mentality when they travel. That's their choice, too. I don't say they are bad. Just different way of travelling.
