Chinese Big Bowl Feast
Big bowl feast is believed to be originated during the end of Song Dynasty, when the Song emperor who try to escape the Jurchen Manchurian Army attack he has arrived at where Yun Long is at Hong Kong today. The people at Hong Kong knew that the emperor was here and they have contributed all the most expensive food ingredients they can afford to make dishes for the emperor, but due to the rush they had put them all in a wooden basin and present it to the emperor. This is why the tradition of decorating the big bowl feast has always been presenting the most expensive ingredients on the top layer of the bowl. This dish has become one of the more popular option during the Chinese New Year recently, taking the auspicious meaning of blending all the good intentions and good luck into one big pot for sharing and celebration.
During the recent years, Cantonese people has gotten used to big bowl feast as a form of official dish during the Chinese New Year. One of the reason why the dish is popular is due to cost and efficiency. Normally if Chinese family dine out it will be a huge crowd where the restaurant will be quite expensive and noisy, secondly it is a logistic nightmare if the Mother/Wife/Father/Husband has to prepare all the nice dishes at home by themselves. So what the people normally do nowadays is to get a pot of ready made big bowl feast from the market, heat it up at home and it will be ready for consumption. It’s tasty, filling and convenient, the success recipe of today’s busy life. We recommend that if you have never try the big bowl feast, give it a go during this CNY
