SINGAPORE – Two flash floods occurred in the Tanjong Pagar area on Monday (Jan 23) morning, while various parts of Singapore from Tiong Bahru to Marine Parade faced high flood risk as a result of overnight rain since Sunday, said the PUB.
Moderate to heavy showers, at times with thunder, are expected to persist for the rest of Monday, said the National Environment Agency.
The flash floods were reported at the junction of Craig Road and Tanjong Pagar Road, as well as at Maxwell Road (South Bridge Road). The PUB tweeted at 9.47am and 10am respectively that the floods had since subsided, and traffic is passable on both roads.
Around the same time, the PUB also warned that the water level at a canal on Prince Philip Avenue near Redhill MRT – Alexandra Canal Sub Drain B – is at 100 per cent, while the water levels had risen above 90 per cent at Tiong Bahru Road/Boon Tiong Road and Jalan Seaview.
At 11.30am, the PUB added Sungei Tongkang at Yio Chu Kang Road and Sungei Kallang (Bishan Road) as new areas facing high flood risk. Photos taken by TODAY at Bishan Park show parts of the park flooded as Kallang River, which runs through it, burst its banks.
