The best you can do is to ask who is going to rent you the apartment, or the staff of the hotel where you will stay, or even better who in your company is already in Batam (I assume you are not a single independent worker). In my experience, many hotel staff is new to Batam and less expert of surroundings than me after research, but you can try to ask the general manager.
At worst, you can try to ask staff of top hotels (Marriott?) claiming you will be there in few months and you want to learn before travelling.

Yes, Mr Black Page. I'm looking for a pool for the occasional swim. During my stay, I'll staying in a house owned by the company in Penuin area behind Grand Batam Mall. Maybe I'll look into the neighboring hotels with pool and pay per usage..
