The reputation system is not an objective assessment based upon a defined set of rules. It's a subjective method of measuring your social standing in the forum.
You could post 50 excellent FRs a day and still be zapped to hell while someone who simply talks rubbish could be way ahead of you in the points standings.
In the long run, it all depends upon the strategic alliances you form and the friends that you make along the way. It mimics real life in many ways where perception is more important than reality.
Many people have experienced first hand losing out in a promotion to some lazy idiot simply because he sucked up to the right people and you didn't.
Well this forum is no different.
