Cab drivers are well known in giving fake RMB bills as change especially at night ... This is because it's hard to detect the fake RMB bills when it's dark and also most of us will be too drunk to notice ... These days it's very common for cab drivers to return fake RMB50 bills as part of the change ... As cab fares within CP are usually RMB20 or RMB30 these days ... One is exposing himself to a very high likelihood of getting fake RMB50 bills being part of the change if one is to pay with a single RMB100 bill ... Whenever possible, pay the cab fare with the exact amount or use denominations no bigger than RMB50 to pay ... This will greatly reduce the likelihood of one getting conned by receiving fake RMB bills as change ...
Another reason why cabbies are the biggest culprits when it comes to fake RMB is cos there is no way u can track him down after u have got off the cab and he has driven off ... It's less likely that one will get fake RMB bills from shops and restaurants as they worry u will go back to them and make a scene etc ...
Hence, I always have a habit these days to keep the small denominations I receive as change after I buy things from convenience stores or from makan ... This will allow me to pay the exact fare for my cab ride as well as to not allow the cabbies to chut pattern by saying no change when I pay them with a bigger denomination ....
