Hi all,

This may sound real ignorant to some of you but how does one get "The Pill"? Do you need a prescription from doctor? Also, what is the difference between "The Pill" and "Morning-after pill"?

As the name suggests, the so-called "morning-after pill" can prevent a pregnancy even after unprotected sex. If the condom broke, or the birth control pills were forgotten, or, worse, a woman was raped, emergency contraception offers a crucial alternative to the prospects of abortion or motherhood. It's a safe, relatively affordable treatment a woman can use at home.

There's only one problem with the morning-after pill: Try getting it the morning after.

In order to get the prescription-only pills, a woman has to reach her doctor, often when offices aren't open. Then she has to find a pharmacy that has the drug available--no mean feat given that many stores don't even stock it, either because they say there's not enough demand, or, sometimes, because they object to it on moral grounds. And she has to do this as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours.

''The Pill'' is the most popular type of birth control. There are many different brands of The Pill and they come in packs of 21 or 28 pills. One pill is taken every day. The first 21 pills have a combination of synthetic estrogen and progesterone hormones. The Pill stops ovulation, preventing the ovaries from releasing eggs. The Pill also thickens cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to enter the uterus. The hormones in the Pill prevent fertilization. The last 7 pills of a 28-day pack have no hormones and are called spacer pills. The Pill is 97-99.9% effective as birth control. It does not protect against reproductive tract infections, including HIV/AIDS.

I heard that the pill is only effective after the whole pack has been completed. Is that true?

To share some info regarding the pill:

THe pill will make gals fat because it "tricks" the body that the gal is pregrant, so the body does not ovulate, that is in lay man terms, the egg is not being released to be fertilise. Usually, the gal gets fatter because a pregrant woman tends to have more fat to support the baby. It is all the hormones.

As for the course to kick in, as far as I know, you have to take the pill non stop, not to miss a single day, and have to start even b4 you have sex, for a month or longer first....

However, this is not 100% effective method and there are chances that the gal will be pregrant as well. Hope all brothers take note.

This is not always the case bro. There has been so much development in the field of medicine & the quality of pills have improved. Abt 3 years ago, the pills have potential for side-effects such as developing breast cancer for long time use. Now the gyne claims no such worries.

So the pills now (also depend the quality of pill, so many brands at so diff prices out there) don't make women fat. My wife was on the pills for 4 years and didn't put on wt!

The pills are effcetrive after 7 days from the first dose (pill). Even if u miss a day, just pop in 2 pills the next day. Thus, ,issing for upto 2 days is still relatively acceptable (as per the pharmacist) but beyond got to start all over again with the 7 day wait !
