First Love

It had been 20 years since I lost touch with my first love. We met each other through a ECA uniform group activity. I was then studying in a boy’s school and she was from a neighboring girl’s school. We were very active in our uniform group and we frequently meet up after school to discuss joint activities.
Mei is a tall slender girl with a bubbly character. She has Eurasian features with big brown eyes and likes to smile. I was infatuated by her friendly character and nice smile. We would discuss the new drills and share skills info which we acquired from courses. We would do schoolwork together and I would send her home after that. After months together, I confessed my feelings for her and she accepted me. From then on, we were together til we completed our O levels. We worked part time together in a fast food restaurant and spend our off days together doing shopping and watching movies.
O levels results are out and both of us did very well and able to enrol together for the same JC. But good days are short for us. My father was transferred to New York to spearhead a new investment project and he decided to shift the whole family over there. I was very reluctant to leave Mei and Singapore. I told Mei about my father’s decision and I can see that she was very sad although she smiled and encourage me to follow my family. She told me I can get better exposure in overseas college and maybe a better future than being in Singapore. I was really touched by her encouragement and I knew she was actually very sad deep inside her heart. I told her I will continue to keep in touch with her and fly back to visit her wherever I have the chance. We hugged each other before we parted our ways.
