Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

If it moves from Geylang to anywhere esle say Bukit Timah or some even say Batam, not only it will lose it history but also its charm. No where esle in Sg will have such a drawing power and excitement of surrounding for even other activities like eateries, kopi tiam, furniture shops, etc..

Literally shopping in one area especially for the FL. It will bring back fond memories. Also recalling which FL, you had bonk in which Lorong when you will feel shiok man.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

Sure or not? In fact the property price will rise as the stigma of a red-light district will disappear and they can build more condo to cash on the location.

I still remember a few years back when I was still a property agent it take months to have a condo unit sold and at a deep discount to the valuation price.

If confirm moved to another area, it's time to buy a condo and wait for it to skyrocket

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

Personally I don' think it will move to Bukit Timah as it will depress the property price there and will associate Bukit Timah with a red-light district instead of a high class residential where the rich and famous reside there.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

Think this rumor has been around for quite some time, converting Geylang from red light district to food heaven only. My friend a cabby even told me last time someone work in Jurong island claim that the IR will be there. Rumors...

Anyway, my thoughts are this move will required a 'great effort' from govt. Geylang will be ghost town if this comes true. Not sure if govt can forego the money and 'control' impact.

My take, Geylang will be around. Not Joo Chiat or any place can replace Geylang. Govt will still need to have one place to centralize the activities. Moving Geylang to somewhere not easily accessible will result mini Geylang everywhere. Govt will have problem...

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

Doubt it will happen....cos even if gov move the legalised brothels to other places...will the illegal fls follow....I dont think they will...they do not have to listen to the AV...they will probably be very happy to have GL all for themselves...no competition from the legals anymore.

If that happens...the fls will probably gain more from it...and the legals will suffer from poorer business due to poorer location. Don't think that is what the gov wants to see.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

Not Bukit Timah la ... like the rich people staying there will stand for it ...

rumour has it that the red light district will move to soemwhere near the new turf club @ Kranji ... rumour's been around for damn long liao ...

frankly i think it is a stupid and unworkable idea ... trust the gahmen to move the legal sex scene to an ulu place ... only thing that will happen is they will get less income from legal sex as there will be a shift to the more easily ascessable FL scene

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

Strong as the rumours are, if even the gahmen tried it, it wouldn't succeed.
It'll be like trying to make a prostitute a factory worker! There would still be WLs trying their luck át Geylang and there would still be cheongsters trying theirs too!
Incidentally, I heard this rumour like five years ago and still nothings happened.
I believe they would try with Keong Siak, Petain or Desker as the areas are much smaller. As it is, on their own the places are dying.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

mai tu liao, quickly get a condo in GL and wait for it to shift
I think possibility to shift GL is very very low, lower than get a gal pregnent with cd on.
It had been such a deep root in our sg life and even most of the tourist know GL, and that what they want to see in GL, great food and gal..slogan for HK tourist promo is eat, shop, shop & eat....our slogan is eat, bonk, bonk and eat..

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

hope GL stay as it is. there is certainly huge economic consideration if it were to shift. just imagine the no. of hotels, eateries, shops that is there now as a result of it being a red light district.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

I believe that when both IR is up, mini Geylang will appeared outside the casino area, together with loan shark, drugs .... those FLs PRC, Viet will migrate there, no $ no sex, $$$$ alot after winning can buy u alot of pussy. So it's time the government shift GL to Marina, maybe a street dedicated to red-light called " Marina Westerhout", also shift all the KTV from Joo Chiat, Health Centre like Dragon across for easy control or the AV will have to run both places.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

What I have heard is that Keong Siak moving to Geylang, given a dedicated Lorong for them to operate. Or let KS die a natural death as someone counted less than 10 brothel there, less as each OKT retires or give-up due to poor business.

But then, what will happen to all the budget hotels if GL shifted away? Hotel81, Fragrance, Hotel Californica, etc.

I think garmen is working one eye open, one eye closed style leh. On the one hand, extensive raiding by AV; on the other hand, liberal issuing of student pass, commercial pass, dependent PR pass etc to these WL. Many also on 14d social pass, readily extended to 28d and more.

Remember at one time, there were some FL in Chinatown, but now no more. If garmen really wants to control and eradicate, it is possible, but the oldest profession cannot be totally wiped out.

Any senior bros know in which epoch GL started, in the 60s, 70s or even earlier??.

Re: Geylang Shifting Soon!

I don't think Govt. will have any diff plan to make GL become something else except to remain it as a typical red district in the island. But, Joo Chit
may have a plan for it, and Keong Siak will be gradually out of business.

The IRs establishment is definitely affect business in GL, especially the conventional houses as some of FL activity will be switching to area nearby IRs. Business owner of new hotel surround IR will be very happy to see it as it will bring them a stable revenue without putting effort on marketing to attract more FL come over to serve their customer. In additional, FL are willing to serve them as most of their customer are foreigners who has a lot of cash to tips them.

What will be happening to GL is that the atomsphere will change. You may not see much high quality FL standing in the street anymore.

One advice to current business owner in GL is to think about it how to channel your business to IRs to keep your it running or even better.
