I would like to know if a -ve syphilis test at 6 week since exposure is conclusive?

AFA hv promo..4th gen test and syphilis test at $40. Ytd went for a check(although always with protection)..result is "-". The wait 15min is like 15hrs sia....

Why so cheapskate? Sex health screening also want SAF to pay for you? Are you willing to let them know the test results if tested positive if they pay for you?

I thought that if you dare to practise high risk sex, the last thing you should be worried about is being tested positive for HIV....You must have seen it coming right in the first place....

It really depends on what kind of test.

There are 2 types of Syphilis tests - Treponemal tests and Non-Treponemal tests.

In Singapore most labs do the Non-Treponemal test (you may have seen the words VDRL or RPR on your report. These are Non-Treponemal tests for Syphilis). Non-Treponemal tests are cheaper but can take up to 3 months to be conclusive. They are also the ONLY tests you can do if you have ever been infected with and treated for Syphilis before.

Treponemal tests on the other hand are as good as 100% accurate by 6 weeks. The only draw back is if you ever had Syphilis before, it will always be positive even if you have been successfully treated.

Rapid Syphilis tests are Treponemal tests.

We have dropped the price of our Combo Test to $150 and the consultation rate for our Anonymous HIV testing has dropped to $20. Hopefully this will help bring down the barriers to testing.

Also you can have your screening at hospitals, gps, etc and also at DSC clinic but these will take 1 week for results.

More than a decade since this thread first started, what perplexes me is less about what's wrong with HIV infection, what is perplexing is how as long as I have a human body every single part from the body from the biggest toe till the formless mind can be sick, so rather than trying to purely detect or diagnose HIV then spending a lifetime trying to cure a disease so that one can die, doing without sexual intercourse i.e. complete celibacy is actually the best prevention especially when fertility rates can still be kept low now that migrants are gradually forming the future populace.
